I find myself oddly haunted by Trieste, though I’ve never been there. I don’t much like the ‘bucket list’ idea, but if I did (and it’s starting to make more sense!) then a train trip from London to Trieste and a few days exploration would be on mine. Would I be disappointed?
Hello Robert! It's always hard to tell. I had a grand time, but that was tinged by arriving straight after leaving a newsroom in Miami where I served the graveyard shift. Everything seemed worldly and interesting after that. You'll enjoy it, provided the wind isn't blowing. Felt like a curious and memorable place. For instance, I befriended an opera singer who took me to his favorite Locanda for wine. The perfect, pleasurable cliché until I realized the patrons were decidedly far right.
If you haven't encountered them, maybe Italo Svevo or Umberto Saba can help you decide, they wrote extensively about their city.
